To be a true knowledgeable person, he/she must possess qualities in academic, professional, effective working experience and social awareness.  Deficiency of any one cannot be qualified to be a true professor.  Research creates knowledge while teaching transmits knowledge to students: research and teaching are the twin brothers indeed.  Some researches are just paper-based which may be of no practical value.  What I am emphasizing  here is the practitioner research or applied research which should give significant contribution to the practical world.  On the other hand, our knowledge world should start from being like a frog inside a well: initially what we perceive the world is just like the view seen from inside a well; gradually we 'know' how to climb upper and can explore our perception of the world and reach the chaos stage; finally we can reach the top of the well and have a full view of the world if we can be persistent enough.

My academic career is based on the above axioms to develop myself and hope to be a true knowledgeable professor in future.  I always remind myself to follow this direction to value-add continuously in order to meet the challenge of change that is inevitable in this lightning-speed technology world.
